About Sylvia

Sylvia Lewis is perhaps the most experienced parenting expert working in the UK today with more than 20 years experience of being actively involved in running her own nurseries and having worked with over a thousand children, as well as helping nurseries improve their Ofsted rating.

When a nursery has an OUTSTANDING OFSTED report – parents, councils and primary carers can be assured that the children in their care, will benefit from a structured and successful foundation.

For the benefit of the next generation’s society, ALL children should have access to an environment that supports social and communication development, intellectual and physical skills plus confidence building strategies.

Children must feel safe and secure whilst learning to embrace their own individuality and also collective responsibility, as part of a team alongside their peers.

Sylvia inspires nursery leaders from her own personal mission statement, to help children achieve their full potential within a caring and safe, educational environment.

Sylvia is currently supporting other nurseries in local and surrounding boroughs in Essex and London, to help raise their OFSTED ratings to OUTSTANDING.

More About Me

WHO WOULD START THEIR OWN CHILDREN’S NURSERY AT THE AGE OF 29 WITH AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD SON, A 1 1/2-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND SEVEN MONTHS PREGNANT? SOUNDS CRAZY RIGHT?

WELL THAT’S WHAT I DID.

Fast forward to 3 years later when I was 32. I was a single parent with 3 children and was diagnosed with a serious heart condition called cardiomyopathy. There were days where I would lay in the hospital bed thinking that this was it, my children are going to be left with no mum and my career as a nursery owner cut short. But the thing that has pulled me through to be here at the age of 50 is sheer determination, a passion to share my knowledge with others and a desire to do the best for my children. There were times where I thought I couldn’t do it. It was hard making sure my house was in order, running two nurseries and build relationships with each of my children without feeling burnt out

Along my journey I have made some mistakes but the one thing that I have learnt in my over 2 decades as a nursery owner and the thing I advocate the most to all my parents is that we CAN take control of our home and work life all while building a stronger bond with our children and having more time for ourselves.

I AM A PROUD MOTHER OF THREE GROWN-UP CHILDREN – KARL 29, KADIE 23 AND NATHAN 21 AND WHILE RIGHT NOW, I HAVE SPENT MOST OF MY LIFE TEACHING PARENTS AND NURSE PRACTITIONERS HOW TO UNDERSTAND AND RELATE BETTER WITH CHILDREN, I DIDN’T ALWAYS HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT.

I BECAME A SINGLE MOTHER AT 21 AND I DIDN’T HAVE A CLUE ON HOW TO BRING UP A CHILD.

What I did know is that I didn’t want me or my son to be another statistic. There was always a stigma with young single mums and I was determined to shake that up. So I worked. I worked as a dentist assistant, bookkeeper and even a fashion designer. Although those jobs gave me a source of income, they never tapped into my true desire to work with children.

During my time working as a fashion designer, my mother was a childminder and needed some assistance. She knew I always wanted to work in childcare so she suggested I get registered as a childminder. I jumped at the idea and that was when my passion was ignited. I went to childminder groups, childcare workshops and got my childcare qualification. I was constantly reading books to gain as much knowledge as I could. I knew this was where I wanted to be.

January 1995. That was when I opened my first nursery and from there I have never looked back. Childcare was always where I wanted to be and things were finally falling into place.

As the years went by, I found myself not only helping staff with their questions, I was also helping parents. I was guiding parents daily on how to tackle the concerns they have with their children and they always came back thanking me. I knew my years of experience as a single working mum, matched with my knowledge gained from various qualifications including being an Accredited Parenting Consultant in Triple P, Nursey Practitioner and Adult Educator and Trainer, I could help parents not just within my nursery but throughout the world.

That’s where Sylvia the Parentologist came along.

I ENCOURAGE PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR CHILDREN’S BEHAVIOUR AND DEVELOPMENT ON A DEEPER LEVEL. I EMPOWER THEM TO GAIN THE CONFIDENCE TO SOLVE THEIR PARENTING ISSUES AND ENABLE THEM TO IMPLEMENT THE STRATEGIES AND TIPS AT HOME TO CREATE A POSITIVE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT.

I teach parents to take control of their lives and create a peaceful parenting experience. I use my experience, training, insight and knowledge to help parents build a stronger relationship with their child all while balancing their home and work life and, of course, making more time for themselves. I believe everyone needs a bit of help along the way, even parents.
